Our Story

Studio Wunderbar was born out of stillness. When film productions ground to a halt in 2020, costume designer Martina retreated to her studio and started making things. Not for a production, not for anyone in particular — just for herself, with whatever was lying around. Old scarves, worn blankets, forgotten fabrics from older movie productions.

What began as a way to fill the days grew into something she couldn't stop. StudioWunderbar officially launched and has been running alongside her work as a costume designer ever since.

Every coat in the collection starts not with a sketch, but with a material. Martina works with secondhand wool blankets, never produced upholstery samples, vintage tablecloths and other flea market finds.

Each piece is genuinely one-of-a-kind — when a material is gone, it's gone. No restocks, no reprints, no two exactly the same.

Everything is made in the Netherlands. No factory, no mass production, no offshore manufacturing. The collection is almost entirely built around winter — coats are the heart of it. Long and cinematic, short and playful, kimono-inspired, structured, somewhere in between. What they all share is the same careful finish and the quiet knowledge that nobody else in the world has the same one as you.
